Description Martin Eikermann 2003-04-13 13:20:25 UTC
Trying to play AlienSong.mpg from http://gstreamer.sourceforge.net/media
with gst-launch-ext gives me the following error-msg:

** (process:1081): WARNING **: couldn't set requested OSS parameters, enjoy
the noise :)

I can see a full speed video/audio playback. Using a gst-launch pipeline
with { queue ! mad ! mono2stereo ! osssink } runs smoothly, no warning,
normal pace.
Comment 1 David Schleef 2003-04-13 19:38:44 UTC
Are you running esd? This will cause problems with playback if the
format isn't exactly the same as what esd is using.

If not, what sound driver are you using, and do you know if it
supports mono output?
Comment 2 Martin Eikermann 2003-04-13 21:59:30 UTC
I have esd installed on my machine, but it's not used by the osssink,
is it? I used "esdcat" on a console to verify that.
Using the esdsink instead of osssink works better, but there's an
other issue with that one. Audio and video playback is not synced when
using esdsink (~half a second or so).

Nevertheless the mono playback works with esdsink, so the driver
should be able to handle it.

Here is what lsmod says about my sound modules:

i810_audio 24840 0 (autoclean)
ac97_codec 13672 0 (autoclean) [i810_audio]
soundcore 6468 2 (autoclean) [i810_audio]

Hi Martin, do you still have this problem with latest releases? (and when you
update bugs set to needinfo I advice you to change their status away from
needinfo, seems things has a tendency to get ´lost' in needinfo mode as bugzilla
treats a needinfo as closed in many cases.

This is a dup of 159433 - that one contains information on how to fix this
(pre-checking).

ok, closing
