GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 110428
won't reconnect when server connection lost
Last modified: 2006-06-18 05:10:50 UTC
When pan loses its connection to the news server it doesn't try to reconnect. The only way to get pan to reconnect it to close and relaunch then revert to the task list. This was confirmed by frizop@charter.net and Alberto BARSELLA <ishark@free.fr> on the pan-users mailing list. Stopping and restarting the task manager won't fix the problem (the task manager usually won't stop anyway). The bug was first apparent with the adoption of the gnet library so I suppose it's possible this may be a gnet bug. Previous versions seemed to have a 'keep alive' loop when the task manager was active that prevented this sort of problem.
I should add that this is when downloading articles, headers, and binaries. The task list appears active although there is no connection. Pan doesn't seem to realize the connection is lost, so it doesn't try to reconnect.
This might already be fixed with the TASK_FAIL and TASK_FAIL_NETWORK changes in the 0.14.1 betas; I'll need to test it a bit.
Confirmed fixed in CVS: I started up 10 largish tasks in Pan and unplugged my cable modem. About 30 seconds after plugging it back in, Pan resumed the tasks.
