GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 108705
Galeon has no Quit
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
Galeon needs a quit. Presently it has no quit and doesn't respond to ctrl-q. We must have ctrl-q.
Why do you think it needs Quit? For normal browsing it's basically useless, just close the window that's bothering you. No one needs Quit so often that it deserves a shortcut, especially one that's as easily used accidently like Ctrl-Q which is right next to Ctrl-W. I should know, I'm one of the very few people who really do need to Quit Galeon to test new builds, in my case sometimes several times an hour. Yet I don't find the lack of Quit a problem at all. On the contrary, I find it reassuring to know I won't be accidently killing the browser. For normal browsing purposes, there's no real need for Quit.
Quit is not "useless" for normal browsing. It quits! That is of course the value of "Quit". What did you think it was for? you seem to think nobody needs to quit their browser, but you are wrong. Mozilla is a leaky pig and many people cannot run Galeon and some other application at the same time because of memory constraints. There is a very legitimate need for Quit. Ctrl-Q is a standard GNOME shortcut key for quitting the application. If in Galeon I have to type Ctrl-W to close each of my 84 browser windows, that makes Galeon different and therefore difficult to use. People who use Ctrl-Q to quit will develop a habit of using Ctrl-Q to quit and when Galeon doesn't quit they will be annoyed. From the GNOME HIG: "Consistency enables users to apply their existing knowledge of their computing environment and other applications to understanding a new application. This not only allows users to become familiar with new applications more quickly, but also helps create a sense of comfort and trust in the overall environment." Be consistent with other GNOME applications. Include "Quit".
