Addendum:

After submitting the report via bug-buddy, I tried running
"gnome-sound-recorder" from the CLI. This is what I got:

Appears to be a unique stack trace, according to the
simple-dup-finder.  Setting version->2.2.x, marking priority->high &
severity->critical (it's a crasher), adding GNOMEVER2.2 and bugsquad
keywords, and marking as new.
Comment 3 Iain 2003-03-01 10:55:20 UTC
Have you run gst-register as root and as your user?

Moving to GStreamer

You don't have anything installed? Do you use RPMs? debs? from source?
What packages do you have installed (form gstreamer)?
Comment 6 andy.hurt5 2003-03-01 21:37:27 UTC
Apologies ;-\

After I installed the gstreamer-core (et. al.) .debs,
gnome-sound-recorder now runs. Sorry for the fire-drill--just
following the steps that bug-buddy asked of me.

I can't get anything to record (Record doesn't record, and Stop hangs
grecord), but that (and the fact that Debian grecord has dependency
problems) is probably a matter I had better take-up with the Debian
unstable dev team.

I guess that means we can close this. ;).
Comment 8 andy.hurt5 2003-03-11 13:01:57 UTC
grecord currently works just fine ;-)

This is confirmed on a fresh install (with gstreamer, et. al.,
installed manually). Seems to just be a dependency problem here in
Debian (one which I have not yet resolved).

Thank you for your time.

Comment 9 Ronald Bultje 2003-03-11 14:07:31 UTC
In that case, let's reopen the bug and make it say that. ;).

(moving back to gnome-media then)

So the summary is that debian doesn't install the necessary gstreamer
packages that are needed to make gsr run?
Comment 10 andy.hurt5 2003-03-11 15:22:52 UTC
Yes; this would seem to be the case.

I got the same error after the fresh install, but this time I knew to
manually get the gstreamer-* packages, though I don't know which ones
are needed in the most minimal sense--this is what I currently have
installed:

ii gstreamer-colorspace 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-core 0.6.0-1
ii gstreamer-core-libs 0.6.0-1
ii gstreamer-doc 0.6.0-1
ii gstreamer-esd 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-gconf 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-gnomevfs 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-jpeg 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-misc 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-oss 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-player 0.5.0-1
ii gstreamer-plugin-apps 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-plugin-libs 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-runtime 0.6.0-1
ii gstreamer-swfdec 0.6.0-3
ii gstreamer-tools 0.6.0-1
ii gstreamer-x 0.6.0-3
ii libgstreamer-dev 0.6.0-3
ii libgstreamer0.6-0 0.6.0-3
ii libgstreamer0.6-dev 0.6.0-3

Might be a bit of over-kill, but I wanted to be sure things would work.

If its a debian dependancy issue then its a debian bug.
