GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 105798
Settings dialog larger than screen at big font sizes
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
When one sets the system font size very high the settings dialog becomes larger than the screen at some resolutions, e.g. 1024x768 and is thus unusable. A limitation of dialog size should be introduced to fit the dialog to the resolution.
Thanks for catching this Ralph. Is this not a general problem for all applications? What is the appropriate testbed? Font Size: ? Screen Res: ? x ?
This fails on my 800x600 screen even at small and standard font sizes. I hope to fix this as part of the refactor for the settings dialog in general. -Bill
Ralph, I am sure we'd still like to hear from you about this, but I am reopening based on my own input (800x600, 10-12 point app font).
My test environment is a 14" laptop display with 1024x768. From an application font size of 24 points the settings dialog begins to be unusable.
I am bumping up the severity since it happens even at small font sizes on some displays.
bill, i hope it is okay to give you ownership of this one, as it is related to your dialog refactoring plans.
patch to 101141 fixes this bug.
BTW, there's a metacity bug that is making this worse, since you can't move a window so that the titlebar is offscreen [#106740].
making sure these bugs have PATCH keyword
the patch for the settings UI helps with this bug a lot; also the gokrc file is specifying a font size, which it should not do; that's also making matters worse. Permission to remove the font-size specification from gokrc?
Sorry I missed this Bill. Yes please go ahead.
