RFE: gdmgreeter needs a shutdown option

Havoc moved my bug over from the RH bugzilla -- the gdmgreeter shutdown can leave fielsystem damage behind. Problem: There is no filesystem safe way for gdmgreeter to halt (shutdown) the server host. The end user has to log in, and sudo or su to root, and execute a halt. -- not something most admins want to allow an unrestricted right to end users to do. It seems that /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf needs an option stanza for the gdm daemon host selection panel to offer a Shutdown (possibly only for authorized users), or for gdmgreeter to add a shutdown option -- here, permitting authentication against the PAM handled passwd/shadow file, and being a better way to handle the matter. For some reason (probably simply historical), it is present with gdmlogin already ...
remote logins never have the shutdown link. This is because mostly you don't want remote hosts to shutdown/reboot the machine. Local ones should. Is this LOCAL (non-xdmcp) logins that don't have the shutdown option (this should be handled in the same way for both gdmlogin and gdmgreeter)
I will test a local non-xdmcp version, but I anticipate that it has the shutdown option available (As I recall, there is an option to make it appear or to be concealed). But we presently have the option about 'allow configuration' in the case of a xdmcp login, to appear on the login screen (a root type function) on tab 4 of gdmconfig - The ability to select a shutdhwon when the IP connected from is 127.0.0.1, even though through a chooser offering, seems a similar thing to the configuration item.
I'm now thoroughly confused. So you WANT a shutdown option for XDMCP logins?
I'm closing this bug. Allowing shutdown from XDMCP logins does not make sense and this bug hasn't had any activiity for 2 years.
