GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 102568
Quick selection of proxy settings in Galeon 1.3.1
Last modified: 2014-08-26 19:51:05 UTC
In Galeon 1.2.7, you could quickly switch the proxy settings on and off via a menu option. This feature seems to be missing from Galeon 1.3.1. While I know that the proxy selection stuff is now in the gnome config, It would be useful to be able to quickly switch the use of the web proxy for Galeon on and off.
I fully agree. Part of the problem is Galeon will not pickup changes except when starting up. You can fiddle the proxy setting all day long but it doesn't change a dang thing in the browser. Very confusing. If Galeon is going to use the GNOME proxy setting, it must listen for changes.
Changes in proxy prefs are now noticed by galeon. It is unclear whether we're going to restore the quick toggle.
Having the quick toggle back would be very useful, at least until the Gnome Network Proxy applet lets you add 'don't proxy these sites' easily.

Is this (don't proxy these sites) going to happen soon? If not, perhaps it should be added to galeon. There have been a number of Debian user comments complaining about proxy settings. For example http://bugs.debian.org/187254

Galeon has not seen any code changes since May 2010: https://git.gnome.org/browse/archive/galeon/log This project is not under active development anymore and got recently archived in GNOME Git. It is currently unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality.
