GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 100541
Remembering last sort-setup would be nice
Last modified: 2009-11-14 22:10:09 UTC
It would be nice if Gnumeric was able to save sort-setups or at least would remember a (perhaps the last) sort-setup for a region or sheet.

An Ubuntu user recently reported something similar, but he gives more details on what he would find useful. Quote: "The sort dialog in Gnumeric should offer the user the option of saving a sort since all sorts made through the Data->Sort dialog are custom and may be complex. It is a hassle for the user to have to recreate the same sort repeatedly. Saved sorts should then be available in the a Data, Data->Sort or a new 'Data->Custom Sort' sub-menu. Custom Sort is probably not the best name for this." bug link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnumeric/+bug/183572

I'd also stress the need for remembering the last sort setup (when "similar" place of work) (during one session). One often needs to correct, re-adjust, straighten it out, repeat, ... The same applies for the Find dialog (and others). This one should perhaps also preserve the last search results (even if sometimes some line ording changed). I often end the find dialog to deal with a data line, then want to go back to other search results. In a table with 6000 lines this takes a lot of time always to re-search (enter the same string & wait some 3+ Seconds for results, which where already there). ( When I came to Gnumeric some 2 weeks ago, the "forgetfulness" of the dialogs was a main reason, why I first thought of a "early version/scratch application" - while I meanwhile see, that otherwise it is very mature. ) I'd less miss managable sort-setups - just as deluxe option.

We are now remembering sort setups during the current session, indexed to the range where they apply. This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
