Description Kevin Breit 2002-07-10 01:45:47 UTC
Package: GIMP
Severity: enhancement
Version: HEAD
Synopsis: Selection -> Similar would be nice
Bugzilla-Product: GIMP
Bugzilla-Component: Tools

Description:
Photoshop (since 3.0 at least) has had a feature where you could select
by a selection. It lives in the Select RMB menu. It is called Similar.
If you have a selection, you can have it grow the selection based on
the colors selected. It then grows the selection to pixels which are
"Similar" in color to the colors in the selection.

Changes at the request of Dave Neary on the developer mailing list.
I am changing many of the bugzilla reports that have not specified a target
milestone to Future milestone. Hope that is acceptable.
Comment 2 Sven Neumann 2005-07-26 12:56:20 UTC
This would probably be a useful change but I'm not sure if I understand the
request correctly. Would the selection extend to colors similar to the border
colors or similar to the average of all selected pixels or similar to at least
one of the selected pixels? Perhaps someone can test what PS is doing here and
add a comment to this report.

I realize this is old, but I created a script-fu that is insanely slow but does (I believe) what this request is about. Just providing this as a reference: http://registry.gimp.org/node/15917
