Description Don Kozak 2018-03-05 13:52:44 UTC
I used "dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/lockdown/disable-log-out true" to disable Log Out but I want to keep the normal Power Off icon instead I see Pause (||) icon and when I press it it does reset or shut down??

Why did disabling Log Out cause Power Button functionality to disappear?
Please help
Don Kozak

If it’s not the intended behavior, then it looks like a bug in GNOME Shell (and I can reproduce it on 3.26). Please report it here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues
Comment 2 Florian Müllner 2018-03-06 19:10:26 UTC
GNOME Shell calls org.gnome.SessionManager.CanShutdown to determine whether the action is available; since commit 107cfa7a4f that does take the 'disable-log-out' setting into consideration.

The commit makes it clear that the change was intentional, but doesn't state a reason, so it may be worth discussing. But in any case, it's a gnome-session policy that's independent(*) from gdm or gnome-shell, so reassigning.

(*) except that gnome-shell listens to lockdown settings changes to update its state by calling CanShutdown again; so if there's a change on the gnome-session side, a quick heads-up to adapt to it would be appreciated :-)

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of gnome-session, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-session/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
