Description Brian "bex" Exelbierd 2017-12-04 09:05:57 UTC
I recognize that Shotwell doesn't want to manage files it can't necessarily work with, however, I believe that it is worth considering an advanced feature that will import all files with a reasonable mime-type (image/* video/* ?) to Shotwell.

New file formats, such as HEIF occasionally show up and it may be sometime before the requisite libraries are available to Shotwell, however users shouldn't be at risk of losing these files if they incorrectly believe they are being backed up. Also, there may be cases, such as with HEIF, where extraction of metadata and preview images may already be functional.

Can we import and manage these files?
