GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 788892
Opening an image does not center it on the canvas
Last modified: 2017-10-30 18:12:08 UTC
Created attachment 361442 [details] screenshot of the problem I can't find a way to reproduce this perfectly every time but it happens a lot. 1. Open multiple images (seems to work best with 4). They should be reasonably large, but small enough so that they fit central in the window. 2. Go back to the first tab (i.e. the image that was opened first). It should be centered on the convas like all the others, but it's off to the top left. See attached screenshot.
Yeah there are a bunch of issues with image centering. I couldn't reproduce yours though. I tried to open 4 images using File>Open (ctrl-o) and with drag-n-drop. It worked ok in both cases. How do you open the 4 images?
This could be similar to bug 786536. But I also recall a bug report specifically about one of multiple images being off-center...
@Jehan yeah I'm just opening with Ctrl+O, selecting multiple images and either clicking Open or pressing the Enter key. I'm not sure if 4 images is the key here as it just happened with 2 images, and didn't happen with 4 different images. Maybe it's specific images? The ones I was using were 1920x1276 and were around 2.7MB. It may be something to do with once the second image starts opening, the first one doesn't get moved to the center. But why are they loading off-center in the first place? Seems to happen with all images regardless of size - they load off to the top left and then move into the center.
Is this the same as bug 701685?
It most likely is. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 701685 ***
Yes I guess it's the same as that one. Has it been fixed? What version will the fix be in?
Yes it has been fixed in master (i.e. development branch). As mitch said (bug 701685 comment 13), this won't be fixed in GIMP 2.8.x, therefore only in the next major (2.10). Sorry. As usual, the reason is mostly priorities and lack of time and developers. We are not against anyone backporting this fix to 2.8 if one wishes and can make the time for it. :-)
