GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 787670
Side panel selection doesn't change after changing file
Last modified: 2018-01-11 10:40:12 UTC
The side panel with the source tree doesn't change the selection when the file being edited changes for other methods (the quick file selector in the upper bar for example). This gives the impression you are editing a different file than the selected in the sidebar, which in my case has caused some unwanted editions already. what should happen is that the selected file in the sidebar source tree browser should be the same as the file opened or focused in the editor.
Not sure at all about that, i can list you plenty of cases where the focused file in the view is not the one selected in the project tree, for example all contextual menu actions on another project tree file.
Ah right, that makes the problem more severe I guess. An option would be to not have selected state at all.
but then problems like keyboard navigation when the project tree is focused and reveal in project tree (in the view contextual menu) arise.
After a bit of discussion on IRC, Sebastien proposes: "no selection except when the project tree is focused and a special animation for reveal action" which sounds quite good. Something to discuss with designers.
