Description Ricard 2017-04-19 12:48:50 UTC
Environment: Fedora 25, x86_64, Gnome 3.22, Gnumeric 1.12.34

Gnumeric solver does not allow to specify decision variables (`By Changing Cells') as noncontiguous ranges. Such ranges can be chosen in the spreadsheet by using the Ctrl key. Actually, in both the normal spreadsheet interaction and in solver I think it would be helpful to be able to select ranges by writing them, as in "C12:G20;C22:G30" (maybe there is such a possibility, but I have not been able to find it).
Comment 1 Morten Welinder 2017-04-21 13:38:28 UTC
This is actually mostly a GUI issue. The solvers don't even know the
shape of the input area.
Comment 2 Ricard 2017-04-24 14:48:46 UTC
Well, at least it is an issue related to the solver GUI, because it does not allow to enter such noncontiguous ranges. I should point out that I tried this with other spreadsheets out there (libreoffice calc and excel), and both allow not only graphical selection, but also manual entry. (Personally, I have the problem that I am not very good with my hands, so I appreciate the possibility of entering things manually.)
