Description Jeremy Bicha 2017-03-17 20:40:13 UTC
gnome-recipes is huge!

In Debian/Ubuntu, I split the data package out to save space on the package servers and mirrors. The gnome-recipes package takes up less than 1 MB installed but gnome-recipes-data takes up 113 MB.

And every release is a tarball that is over 100MB, much larger than any other release tarball in GNOME I believe.

Would it be useful to split the recipe data to a separate source that could be packaged and updated separately?

I guess that wouldn't help things except when you want to update the client without needing to update the data. And the data still is being updated frequently now (it will need more editing and translating at least).

See bug 778619 for the plan to deal with this.

Cool. I'll go ahead and mark this a duplicate of that.
