GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 778492
Cutting off layer mask when it's outside layer boundary while opening PSD file in GIMP
Last modified: 2018-05-24 17:25:14 UTC
Created attachment 345521 [details] Screenshots When opening Photoshop PSD file with layer mask (like attached file "Image with Layer.jpg") in GIMP it doesn't open layer at the same size as the image which it belongs to, instead GIMP opens layer in their own size (Layer Boundary Size) which cut-off layer mask (look at attached file "Image with Layer Mask GIMP.jpg") so that it doesn't look like in Photoshop (look at attached file "Image with Layer Mask Photoshop.jpg") even after doing "Layer to Image Size" (look at attached file "Image with Layer Mask GIMP after Layer to Image Size.jpg"). This cause that some Map Filters (Bump Map, Displace, Warp...) doesn't work right because they usually need layer mask (Map) to be larger then layer. Current stable release of GIMP (2.8.20) show message (which by the way appears very shortly) related with this problem, when opening PSD file with layer mask which is outside layer boundary (look at attached file "GIMP Message.jpg"). It will be nice to change the way how GIMP open Photoshop PSD files so that it opens layer at the same size as the image which it belongs to so that it doesn't cut-off layer mask or give a choice to users how they want to open Photoshop PSD files in GIMP (with layer size on its own or layer size same as the image which it belongs to). Thanks in advance, Sasa Radovanovic
Can you attach the screenshots in a more standard archive format, or as the actual images, please?

(In reply to Michael Schumacher from comment #1) > Can you attach the screenshots in a more standard archive format, or as the > actual images, please? Big sorry Michael, but somehow I missed your comment 4 months ago, I now attached screenshots as actual images as you asked. Also this bug is not the same as bug 593251, maybe they are connected and maybe their patch can be part of solution for this bug but I don't have experience to check that.
