GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 770144
Handle meta data for directories
Last modified: 2021-05-25 18:02:08 UTC
Hi, I asked on AskUbuntu how I can store meta data per directory. See: http://askubuntu.com/questions/809925/long-description-for-a-directory Unfortunately this seem impossible at the moment. There is no standard or specification how to store meta data for directories. I think it is too much work to create a spec. What do you think? Would you implement it, if there is a spec? Goal: Store meta-data per directory: * verbose name: A long description which can contain slashes and newlines * key-value flags.
Hello, no response since two months ... sad :-( Is there no one out there which thinks that the usability of linux desktops is only beginning? A lot has been done during the last years, but this topic is basic, fundamental and the coding is not difficult. The difficult part is the agreement/spec: How to write meta data for files and directories? It works for music and pictures on ubuntu. But both applications (rhythmbox and shotwell/eye-of-gnome) done use the same data storage... I don't think the desktop is dead (compared to web and mobile)
Hi, Thomas. Thanks for the suggestions. It's unfortunately hard to know how to provide you a proper response because "Handle meta data for directories" is too vague. The description mentions a solution in the form of a standard, but it's not clear what that's a solution for. A clear definition of use cases and how they are currently dealt with would help. When providing a better description, please reset the status of this bug report to NEW. Instead, if you wish to discuss the matter of metadata handling as a whole, you are more than welcome to direct your questions at #nautilus on irc.gnome.org using an IRC client, or using Riot.im https://riot.im/app/#/room/#_gimpnet_#nautilus:matrix.org
Closing this bug report as no further information has been provided. Please feel free to report this to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ if you can provide the information that was asked for in a previous comment and if this still happens in a recent and supported version. Thanks!
