GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 768382
Put status messages on the left
Last modified: 2021-06-10 21:42:04 UTC
Created attachment 330856 [details] mockup comparison In bug 710409, status messages were moved to the right. Now that we have filtering and compression of these messages, I think it would be a good time to move them back to the left. Status messages on the right creates large gaps which makes it harder to read the conversation. It also means that you have to scan between the right and left sides if you are interested in the status messages (which is more likely with filtering/compression).
Created attachment 337655 [details] [review] chatView: Status messages moved to the left The status messages were moved to the right. However that wasn't a good place for them from the UX point of view. Now everything feels more in place. Fix this by removing 'left_margin' and 'justification' from the 'status' tag.
I forgot to mention that, IMO it looks much more solid if it's left aligned with all the messages. If this isn't a common feeling I will change it according the mockup.
Created attachment 337663 [details] Screenshot with changed alignment I don't mind changing the alignment, but the result looks wrong to me without more spacing between the last regular message and the first status message - just compare the attached screenshot with Allan's mockup to see the difference.
Comment on attachment 337655 [details] [review] chatView: Status messages moved to the left Marking patch as needs-work according to the last comment.
Created attachment 349917 [details] Screenshot with changed alignment I wanted to work on this issue as a newcomer but noticed the patch already uploaded. The spacing problem you mentioned in the past seems to have naturally resolved in the new version.
