GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 766489
Can't change default calendar for events
Last modified: 2017-11-24 21:45:36 UTC
I'm currently unable to change the default calendar to save events to in GNOME Calendar. I see the option in a calendar's settings, but the change isn't saved. Steps to reproduce: - Open the Calendar Settings dialog. - Under Calendars, select one of the calendar. - Check or uncheck the option to add new events to that calendar by default. - Click the Back button and the on that same calendar again. - Notice that your changes haven't been saved.
Can you test on the latest stable version 3.20.2? Also if you after completing the steps in comment #1 quit the application and start it again, do you see a change to the default calendar then?
> Can you test on the latest stable version 3.20.2? Sorry, unable to run 3.20 here. > Also if you after completing the steps in comment #1 quit the application and start it again, do you see a change to the default calendar then? I don't. Thanks for taking a look.

Well this works for me at least in 3.20, so some of the machinery is working. Just the update during the run needs a good look at then.
I'm seeing this problem too. I'm running Calendar 3.20.4 on Ubuntu 16.10.
There are actually two distinct bugs here. The first exists in the gnome-3-20 branch, but has apparently been fixed in master. To see it: 1. Open the Calendar Settings dialog. 2. Select a calendar, then click "Add new events to this calendar by default" to set it as default. 3. Exit the dialog. 4. Click on any day to open the New Event dialog. It will show the *previous* default calendar, incorrectly. 5. Click the day again to close the New Event dialog. 6. Click the day again to show the New Event dialog. It will now show the current default calendar. The second bug still exists in master. To see it: 1. Start gnome-calendar with some calendar A as the current default. 2. Open Calendar Settings and select a second calendar B. 3. Click "Add new events to this calendar by default" to set B as the default. 4. Click Back to go back to the Calendar Settings list. 5. Now select calendar A. This will now invisibly set the default back to calendar A - even though "Add new events to this calendar by default" isn't checked! 6. To see that the calendar was changed in step 5, close the dialog and then click any day to open the New Event dialog. It will show calendar A. You can work around both bugs by exiting gnome-calendar immediately after you change the default calendar.
