GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 761591
Add play controls to albums
Last modified: 2018-01-10 14:48:31 UTC
Currently, if you want to play an album, you have to select the first track to stay playback. This isn't the best experience. The user wants to play the whole album: they don't care what the first track is, nor should they have to think about tracks at all. Ideally there would just be a big play button for the album as a whole. The current situation is also sub-optimal if you want to shuffle or repeat play an album, since you have to pick a track to stay playback, and then select shuffle/repeat. Not only is this a lot of work, but it forces the user to pick a track, which isn't what they want for shuffle play. Mockups for album play controls: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/music/windowed-artists.png https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/music/windowed-album.png The ... button would show a popover with actions for shuffle and repeat play.
can I work on this issue I've already made some contribution to Getting things Gnome on github and I'm familiar with modules used in gnome application development.

I looked at the proposed mockups. I think it would be more minimal to have the play button and shuffle button side by side, and appear when the cursor hovers over the cover art(the cover art would shade). Either that or they are evenly distributed below the cover art in a similar fashion to that in the mockups. It seems like even I'm excited to try.
I remember seeing some mock-ups/semi-working code for this. Any update on the progress?
