Description Gendre Sébastien 2014-05-09 12:13:50 UTC
In Empathy 3.10.3, I can't share my desktop with a contact that using Jitsi 2.5.5065. The entry in the menu is disable. But these 2 Jabber clients have this features.

For Desktop Sharing, Empathy use a XEP or a personal solution?

Empathy uses a Telepathy specific feature called "tubes" to establish a VNC connection to the other contact. I have no idea what Jitsi is using but that's certainly something different.

Apparently, Jitsi have only desktop streaming. So, they probably send a video stream with Jingle. But I'm not sure.

So, after some tests: Jitsi use Jingle to share the desktop. It capture the screen and send it as if it's a webcam.

Empathy can receive a desktop streaming from a Jitsi client. But in the opposite direction, it's not possible.

I think Empathy can implement the Jitsi solution too, as a compatibility solution with other client that don't implement "tubes" and VNC.
