Hi , Im trying to start gnome-documents on a Slackware64 14.1 machine with dropline gnome. when I try to start it it errors with this output in the terminal: rc@rclaptop:~$ gnome-documents ** Message: JS WARNING: [/usr/share/gnome-documents/js/documents.js 764]: octal literals and octal escape sequences are deprecated ** Message: JS WARNING: [/usr/share/gnome-documents/js/documents.js 764]: octal literals and octal escape sequences are deprecated ** Message: JS WARNING: [/usr/share/gnome-documents/js/documents.js 764]: octal literals and octal escape sequences are deprecated (gnome-documents:8390): Gjs-WARNING **: JS ERROR: Error: Unsupported type void, deriving from fundamental void NotificationManager<._init@/usr/share/gnome-documents/js/notifications.js:259 wrapper@/usr/share/gjs-1.0/lang.js:213 _Base._construct@/usr/share/gjs-1.0/lang.js:154 Class._construct/newClass@/usr/share/gjs-1.0/lang.js:248 Application<._createWindow@/usr/share/gnome-documents/js/application.js:490 wrapper@/usr/share/gjs-1.0/lang.js:213 Application<.vfunc_command_line@/usr/share/gnome-documents/js/application.js:509 wrapper@/usr/share/gjs-1.0/lang.js:213 start@/usr/share/gnome-documents/js/main.js:29 @<command line>:1 Gjs-Message: JS LOG: Can't find a valid getting started PDF document rc@rclaptop:~$ On a i686 build works out of the box. Both builds have exactly same deps and components.
Which gjs version is this about?
I can confirm the problem. Here are some package versions being used in this release of gnome for slackware. gjs-1.38.1-x86_64-1 gcr-3.10.1-x86_64-1 gobject-introspection-1.38.0-x86_64-1
And your gnome-documents version is 3.10.x? Might very well be a packaging bug because I can not reproduce this with Git master or 3.10.x.
Downgrading to gjs-1.38.0 allows the gnome-documents interface to come up but it is not finding any documents. Tried restarting the tracker with no joy.
Yes. To confirm it is gnome documents 3.10.1.
Ok just to confirm it, we have the following gjs and gnome-documents: gjs-1.38.1-x86_64-1dl gnome-documents-3.10.1-x86_64-1dl As an additional information, this is something what is not working already from gnome 3.8.x , I have it working on 3.8 also only as i686. The packages are built for our project droplinegnome.org which is a gnome desktop for slackware.
And other gjs modules (eg., gnome-weather, gnome-shell) work as expected?
Yes, gnome-weather works normally, and gnome-shell of course as i'm using it on a daily basis. gnome-weather-3.10.1-x86_64-1dl gnome-shell-3.10.3-x86_64-1dl gnome-shell-extensions-3.10.1-x86_64-1dl

Downgrading from critical to normal because I think it is something broken with your setup. I can not reproduce it on Fedora or Continuous.
We will see what will happen with gnome 3.14 build on slackware. We had this same problem going on from 3.6.x only on x86-64 arch. Maybe it is our dropline gnome problem with a missing package on a x86-64 build, but to me seems strange why then on i686 works. Example, it worked out on i686 on gnome 3.6 and gnome 3.8 builds but not on x86-64 arch. Of course both archs were build with same dependencies and base packages.
Seems to be working fine on pretty much every other distribution, so closing this as NOTGNOME.
