Description Michal Sojka 2014-01-27 22:44:57 UTC
In order to find how to focus search box via keyboard I had to search through
the sources. It would be nice if the empty search box shows shows some grayed help text such as "Search (focus with Ctrl-K)".

Thanks.

I agree that it is not easily discoverable; unless you actually are used to search entries in e.g. the Firefox or Chrome toolbars. The same Ctrl+K is used to focus the e.g. "Search using Google" entry. We also added Ctrl+S to do exactly the same, as some users were used to that keybinding in previous Devhelp versions.

The correct way to document the Ctrl+K behaviour is actually a help manual, which we don't have.

Adding the hint within the same Search box is an option, but I'm not sure I personally like it. I'll add anyway the ui-review tag to see what designers have to say, as this is not something that Devhelp should end up doing alone.

It can be fixed as part of bug #757877.

Ctrl-K is now mentioned in the shortcuts window.
