GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 717599
support JPEG comments
Last modified: 2021-05-19 12:51:00 UTC
---- Reported by adam@yorba.org 2011-04-18 14:44:00 -0700 ---- Original Redmine bug id: 3516 Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/3516 Searchable id: yorba-bug-3516 Original author: Adam Dingle Original description: JPEG files can contain comments, which are apparently distinct from EXIF metadata. See the table of JPEG markers at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG#Syntax_and_structure We should investigate whether other photo programs handle these comments and whether they treat them as titles, descriptions or something else entirely. We can update the PhotoTags page with the results of our investigations. Finally we may wish to support these in Shotwell (perhaps along with #1573). Related issues: related to shotwell - Feature #1573: add notes/description to photo (Fixed) ---- Additional Comments From shotwell-maint@gnome.bugs 2013-01-10 10:39:00 -0800 ---- ### History #### #1 Updated by Adam Dingle about 2 years ago * **Description** updated (diff) Originally requested at http://lists.yorba.org/pipermail/shotwell/2011-April/002100.html . #### #2 Updated by Jim Nelson 11 months ago * **Subject** changed from _possibly support JPEG comments_ to _support JPEG comments_ * **Description** updated (diff) * **Category** set to _library-mode_ There's a proviso to this feature. Today metadata writing inhibits duplicate detection. We have a ticket to ignore metadata when doing duplicate detection (#3487). This is going to be doubly difficult if duplicate detection has to ignore certain fields within the JPEG structure as well. --- Bug imported by chaz@yorba.org 2013-11-25 21:52 UTC --- This bug was previously known as _bug_ 3516 at http://redmine.yorba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3516 Unknown version " in product shotwell.
