Allow users to change IMAP server
Last modified: 2018-12-27 01:10:55 UTC
---- Reported by geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2013-03-20 22:16:00 -0700 ---- Original Redmine bug id: 6628 Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/6628 Searchable id: yorba-bug-6628 Original author: Maia Kozheva Original description: I created a custom IMAP account. When I attempt to edit it, most fields (server address, port, etc.) are greyed out. So is the save button. What's worse, encryption settings for both IMAP and SMTP are set to SSL/TLS, even though I set them to "None" when creating the account. And I cannot edit them either. Related issues: related to geary - Feature #6760: Allow users to change SMTP server (Open) related to geary - 6761: When editing Other account, IMAP and SMTP security settin... (Fixed) related to geary - 6475: Allow removing the last account (Open) ---- Additional Comments From geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2013-09-04 16:30:00 -0700 ---- ### History #### #1 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago * **Category** set to _accounts_ At this time, we don't allow changing those fields because it's possible for you to then point a created local account at an entirely different mailbox, which Geary doesn't support or detect. We'd like to offer this in the future, but only when we feel we have a better grasp of all the potential issues. #### #2 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago * **Subject** changed from _Cannot edit IMAP account: most fields and save button are greyed out_ to _Cannot edit IMAP account: network connection fields are greyed out_ I've updated the title to be more specific about what's at issue here. #### #3 Updated by João Pedro 8 months ago In my point of view the real issue is this : "encryption settings for both IMAP and SMTP are set to SSL/TLS, even though I set them to "None" when creating the account. And I cannot edit them either" This is a issue that also affects me. #### #4 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago * **Category** changed from _accounts_ to _server-support_ * **Target version** set to _0.4.0_ That sounds like a bug. We'll take a look at this. #### #5 Updated by Maia Kozheva 8 months ago The reason I was attempting to edit the account in the first place is because the "Download mail" setting is not shown when adding an account, only when editing. #### #6 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago Yes. We want creating an account to be as simple as possible, that's why it's not shown. You are able to change the "Download mail" setting, right? #### #7 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago I've created a separate ticket for the SSL problems when editing an account: #6761. #### #8 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago Maia, as I noted in #6761, I can't reproduce the problem where the server settings are created with None for security but display later as SSL/TLS. What kind of server are you trying to connect to? If you could answer on #6761 (http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/6761) that would be helpful. #### #9 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago Maia, we have reproduced the server setting problem after all. We should have that fixed in 0.3.1. #### #10 Updated by Maia Kozheva 6 months ago Jim Nelson wrote: > Maia, we have reproduced the server setting problem after all. We should have that fixed in 0.3.1. Yes, these problems are fixed for me in 0.3.1. Editing an account is still disallowed, but encryption settings are correctly remembered and I can now change the "download mail" setting. #### #11 Updated by Jim Nelson 3 months ago * **Category** changed from _server-support_ to _accounts_ * **Target version** changed from _0.4.0_ to _0.5.0_ --- Bug imported by chaz@yorba.org 2013-11-21 23:11 UTC --- This bug was previously known as _bug_ 6628 at http://redmine.yorba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6628 Imported an attachment (id=261157) Unknown milestone "unknown in product geary. According to Bug 714751 it was a deliberate decision to not allow the IMAP server to be changed, since if the user changes it to a different (or duplicate) account it will be kinda sucky. However server addresses do change, and just because Geary might need to do some work to make sure two accounts with the same login and server exist if the server name does change, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be possible. So lets do this.
