GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 698793
Allow to create relative symlinks
Last modified: 2021-06-28 19:32:02 UTC
If I understand correct, "Create Link" always creates an absolute symlink. IMO there are many use cases, where a relative symlink would better serve the needs of the user. So maybe create relative symlinks by default, if source and target are on the same volume, or provide suitable dialogue, which would additionally allow to offer a hardlink.
Hi Thank you for your interest for Nautilus-Actions. I don't understand what you mean with "Create link". My own Nautilus 3.4.2 context menu has a "Make link" option, that Nautilus-Actions has nothing do do about. Nautilus-Actions is "only" a tool to help manage context items. Maybe you should address this bug to nautilus ? regards Pierre
(In reply to comment #1) > I don't understand what you mean with "Create link". My system is running in german localisation, so I missed the correct translation. I meant the context menu item on folders: "Make Link". > Nautilus-Actions is "only" a tool to help manage context items. Maybe you > should address this bug to nautilus ? Done!
Hi, I have the same problem too, I'd like to make relative symlink in my Git repo but not possible to achieve this graphically in Nautilus.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
I have created a copy of this issue here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/1901
