Description Laurent Pointecouteau 2013-01-28 20:20:52 UTC
I'm trying to add a MP4 video ripped from this YouTube URL (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NFJyWqgu3Q&list=PL19864D2872F9BB9E&index=2) with the DownloadHelper extension for Firefox. Totem plays it perfectly, but PiTiVi treats it as an audio file, without showing any video. Here's what MediaInfo shows me about that file : http://pastebin.archlinux.fr/455777 I've tried to rename the file using a *.m4v extension, but it didn't change anything.

I'm using gst-plugins-bad 1.0.4 from the Arch Linux [extra repositories (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/gst-plugins-bad/)

Hi, please provide a direct link to an actual sample file to test with. "youtube-dl" gets me a webm file (which works fine) and the Firefox downloadhelper extension seems to only offer .mp4 and .flv files anyway. So far, I'm unable to reproduce the issue.

Ok, that file you provided does not show video (sound only) in totem using gstreamer 0.10.36. However, it works fine with pitivi using gstreamer git (you're probably using a version of totem that uses gstreamer 1.x). So, not actually a problem in pitivi itself, but rather the bug about mp4 video streams being broken in the last few releases of 0.10.

The workaround, until you have a gst1-based pitivi, is to use another format (using youtube-dl to get the webm version for example).

Oh that's right, it's a GStreamer 0.10 issue. I should have thought about it ! Thanks a lot for your advice.
