Description Tommy He 2012-12-24 07:39:29 UTC
GNOME 3.6 has introduced the iBus integration. Comparing to previous version, now it requires an extra gsetting key change if the user wants to use other input method framework.

It would be more user friendly if gnome-tweak-tool could provide a GUI way to switch the key status.

Current:
If a user wants to use other input method framework, he has to run the following command in terminal to disable XKB/iBus integration, as suggested on GNOME 3.6 release note: https://live.gnome.org/ThreePointFive/Features/IBus#How_to_use_other_IM_frameworks

$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.keyboard active false

Then he may use im-chooser(Input Method Selector) from either terminal or shell overview to choose another input method framework.

If later on he wants to use iBus again, he will need to run the following command to enable XKS/iBus integration:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.keyboard active true

To make those two changes above requires user a bit searching on Internet and a bit understanding of how GNOME is configured. That might be too much for non-technical end users.

Expect:

User could use gnome-tweak-tool(once installed) to toggle the XKB/iBus integration status by a slider.

No searching nor CLI commands in terminal are necessary.
