GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 689240
Log out menu entry is not shown when a second session alternative is installed after login
Last modified: 2021-07-05 14:18:25 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. Start with a system with only one session type and only one user. 2. Log in 3. Install another session (in my case cinnamon) Expected behavior: At this point, the log out entry should be shown in the menu, since I might want to swithch to the new session. Actual behavior: The menu doesn't change, leaving reboot as the only option to switch session. After a reboot the option is shown.
Yeah, currently nothing is monitoring the session directories for changes. We could do that in the shell, but it would be better to not duplicate GDM's list of directories (and keep it in sync!), so we'd need some API in GDM to be notified about session changes and a fix for http://git.gnome.org/browse/gdm/tree/gui/libgdm/gdm-sessions.c#n160
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
