Description Age Bosma (IRC: Forage) 2012-11-14 19:55:26 UTC
The "File As" field gets added to a Google contact when linking one or more IM contacts to a contact. The field will contain "[last name], [first name]". The result is a contact list in Gmail with all contacts that where not linked with an IM contact sorted by their first name and the contacts that where linked sorted by their last name.

This can't be desired behaviour. You'd either have to recall which contacts where linked to locate them in the list, manually add a "File As" field to all contacts, or remove the "File As" field manually after linking.

When altering e.g. just an address, no such field gets added.

Situation:
- Ubuntu 12.10 GNOME remix (x64)
- GNOME Contacts/Shell 3.6
- Google as the contacts storage location

Linking contacts certainly shouldn't result in contact details being modified - it's a client side rather than server side operation.
