Remove the statusbar

We have a nice floating status bar now so the old school status bar isn't needed.

The old status bar showed info about free space on disk (or better the partition holding current location) when no item was selected. I suspect this is/was the only quick way provided by GNOME Desktop to check free space on disk or other media, for example before starting to move/copy files. Baobab only shows free space on root filesystem (i.e /, not /home if you keep them separated) and Disks only global size. By removing the old status bar you are removing a feature that, AFAIK, is currently not provided elsewhere. Of course I know that hidden status bar is not the proper place to expose this kind of info to the user, but 'cause currently no other option is available, may I ask to revert this change in order to avoid a regression and find a better desing to show free/avilable space inside Nautilus windows?
The Properties dialog has always shown this information, and I personally do not need to know frequently this information. I wonder if it is ok with users frequently copying files to a removable media for instance, where you always like to know the available space before starting to copy. Arguably, the users should not need that since Nautilus tells you before starting if there is not enough space (I do not remember if Nautilus tells at this moment the remaining space).
I agree with Luca Ferretti: the statusbar was the only quick way to check free space. Here is an example of the way I used the statusbar : I have five partitions on my computer (my home folder + four more partitions used for video edition). Some of them are almost full with video rushes. When I want to copy new big files (from a camcorder) I simply clicked on each partition in the sidebar to check its free space displayed in the statusbar. Then I chose the most suitable partition and pasted my files. I guess I will have to use the terminal as a workaround. I think "Ctrl+Alt+T -> df -h -> close terminal" will be faster than doing "right click -> properties -> close Properties window" five times. However, IMHO, the "terminal" way will be really less intuitive than the way I did. But I think that the "right click" way isn't intuitive too. As a suggestion : this information could be displayed on your new floating status bar when the mouse is moved over the sidebar items (and it would be faster, as no click would be needed).
Please get the status bar back in Nautilus 3.6.x. It is an essential feature to quickly see the free space on a device. I use Ubuntu 12.10 and have decided to get the full Gnome Shell feeling by installing Nautilus 3.6. I tell you that it was a wrong decision. Everyday, I need to shuffle lots of data on different devices (partitions, flash disks, network shares,...). The lack of a "free space" indicator is extremely detrimental. Please reconsider your decision.
