GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 668033
Enable change of font of the whole chart in one click
Last modified: 2018-05-22 13:47:23 UTC
In Gnumeric, there is a default font (Sans in my Debian Wheezy). I don't know how to change the default font, which is quite upsetting. But what is more upsetting is that I recently had to compile a huge amount of graphs with a lot of names and had to set the font manually for every object in the graph, such as: Title, axes numbering, axis labels etc. I was quite shocked to see when I helped a my friend to edit these graphs on Office 2003. There one can just choose with one click the font for the whole graph area. It makes things very simple and easy. In the end, despite the better tools for data processing - compared to excel 2003 - compiling graphs and editing them is still better in Excel 2003. While Gnumeric is already a great piece of software, I think implementing a font selection option for the whole graph, would make even greater.
You can change the default font using the main font tab in edit->preferences.
Changing the default font in edit/preferences has no influence on the font used in charts. The right way to go is to change the chart theme. We clearly an easy way to edit themes (and save them at the document level for all non built-in).
Edit -> Preferences -> Default font. Is not the way because that is not what I asked for. I asked for an easy way, 1-Click to change the font of a specific Graph. First, because most new comers from the Closed Source alternative would expect this behavior. And second, because - I hate to say it but sometimes the guys at Redmond do good stuff - but it's a good way to do it! About the themes, while I like that idea, at the moment I can't see a way to edit themes, without messing around with XML files. These should also be implemented. However, my feature request does not contradict it, and could very well exist along side with themes.
@oz: My comment #1 was regarding your statement: "In Gnumeric, there is a default font (Sans in my Debian Wheezy). I don't know how to change the default font, which is quite upsetting." The comment was not regarding the "But what is more upsetting..." part.
