Hi Michael, does this still happen in 3.6?
Comment 2 Atri 2013-02-24 09:55:39 UTC
I see this every time when resuming from lock screen, for example. Gnome-shell 3.6.3.

Sorry for the delay, I updated to 3.6 in december (Fedora 18 Beta) and can say that this problem got a LOT worse than in previous versions. I think Atri is right with his comment.
Comment 4 Atri 2013-03-15 01:29:53 UTC
This seems to be a more general issue with items in the gnome-shell top bar: even the wifi icon sometimes "gets stuck" on showing the Connecting icon even when the wireless has already connected. In both cases, i.e. for the wireless icon as well as for the status icon, reloading gnome-shell causes the correct icon to show up.
Comment 5 Milan Bouchet-Valat 2013-03-18 21:56:04 UTC
Atri: what version are you using?
Comment 6 Milan Bouchet-Valat 2013-03-18 21:57:58 UTC
Hm, forget that question. Also see bug 676285 about the network indicator problem.
Comment 7 Tobias Getzner 2013-07-10 13:56:31 UTC
Same thing here, with gnome-shell 3.8.3. I can consistently reproduce the bug following atri's comment, i.e. lock the screen and unlock. To reset the status reported by the shell to "online", I need to go offline in empathy and go back online. After this, gnome-shell will report the status as online. After locking the screen, the shell will then again reset to "offline".
Comment 8 Tobias Getzner 2013-07-18 10:19:12 UTC
If the NEEDINFO status is still current then would a dev kindly provide pointers on the kind of information needed in this case before considering the issue confirmed?
Comment 9 Julien Olivier 2013-07-23 08:19:12 UTC
Please change the status to "new" or "confirmed". This bug report doesn't need infos.
Comment 10 Serge Gavrilov 2013-10-09 08:59:53 UTC
I confirm this bug (gnome-shell 3.8.4, gentoo).
Comment 11 Serge Gavrilov 2013-10-09 10:02:15 UTC
It seems that the bug is caused by patch from

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=691987

which is used by gentoo in gnome-base/gnome-shell-3.8.4 ebuild.

Removing that patch fixes the problem.

This bug predates that patch by more than a year, so no.
Comment 13 Serge Gavrilov 2013-10-09 11:16:35 UTC
Sorry, the last comment was wrong: I have reproduced the problem again.
Comment 14 Serge Gavrilov 2013-10-09 13:00:14 UTC
OK, I have investigated this more deeply. The problem is caused by some gnome-shell extensions. If I disable all extensions then the bug disappear.

Enabling any extension from the list

https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/541/nvidia-gpu-temperature-indicator/
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/82/cpu-temperature-indicator/
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/120/system-monitor/
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/82/cpu-temperature-indicator/
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/613/weather/

breaks the gnome-shell again.

This is for 3.8.4
Comment 17 Florian Müllner 2014-11-07 18:32:59 UTC
The user menu is completely gone since 3.10.
