Window ordering to reproduce the bug

Switching to and from single window mode messes up toolbox as it gets merged with the detached dialogues window.

How to reproduce:

1. create a layout like this, from the left: main window -- toolbox -- detached dialogues window

2. switch to single window mode, you end up with a window with the 'you can drop dockable dialogues here' area on the left, then the image area and merged contents of your other windows on the right (with the toolbox on the right)

3. switching back to multi-window mode doesn't restore the previous setup

Expected result:
1. most importantly, the toolbox and the other detached dialogues are not merged together (either after step 2 or 3)
2. in single-window mode the toolbox appears on the left with the detached dialogues on the right

Additional info:

It works just fine if the windows are ordered like this before switching to the single-window mode: toolbox -- main window -- detached dialogues window

Hi and thanks for the bug report! This is a known issue, and the reason it is like this is that properly solving it is quite hard. It boils down to that it is tricky with the current architecture to maintain *two* session layouts, which is what you would need to do to solve this properly.

Anyway, I don't consider this to be a severe issue and it doesn't block a 2.8 release.

Hi,

I encountered the same issue. And which was the most annoying was to have the toolbox to the right. Not that someone may not want it to the right, but not this way. :-)

In any case getting the toolbox back to the left and the right docks to the right was like a puzzle game (going back to single mode, getting the whole new merged dock to the left, then back multi mode, and drag'n drop docks to the right).

My proposition is:

1/ If you have all your docks/toolbox on one side in multi window mode (like in attachment 198746 [details]), then I think it is normal to have it in the same side as well in single window mode.

2/ But the order of docks seems to have been inverted after the switch (cf. 198747). This is not good. Not tested personally though, but I will.

3/ If you have several dock columns on the same side in single window mode though, I suggest they get separated in the multi window mode switch though. The reason is that otherwise it is a bitch to reorder them otherwise.

4/ The toolbox should also be moveable by drag'n drop to another slot, other than by having to switch to multi window mode then back to single. For instance as there is no tab to grab, we could say that we could grab the Wilber above the toolbox?

Anyway I'll look into it if I can make some time. :-)
