fixes abovementioned problems, patch against todays git master.

Username and password aren't necessary anymore with the German virtual provider FONIC.
dns servers aren't send to the user when connecting, so these must be specified by the user.

In the meantime they seem to have fixed the dns-problem and are giving dns-servers when negotiating and getting ip etc. But they give the dns-servers of a concurrent. So I am going to double check next week during business hours with their support again. Feel free to assign to me until I come back with more information.

Ok, let me know.

Sorry for the slowness, I've poked their tech department once again today. They have some internal disagreements on how to deal with my questions. At least the 62.134.11.4 got confirmed, waiting for the second dns server confirmation.
Comment 4 kwadronaut 2010-12-10 09:48:48 UTC
They occasionally do send dns servers, but if they do, some of them are ill-configured. The patch I've send makes it working for me, those dns-servers are owned by that isp, so the patch is correct.

Because this isp and some others were acquired not long ago by another isp, it made everything a bit complicated - integration hassles.

Here's the ISPs page which describes its settings: http://www.fonic.de/html/handy-einstellungen.html

Commit 07c6a97478a8fd89218145d8e4cfe313454b9582 (#647776) made me aware of this bug again, it fixes a typo still present in my old patch. In the meantime this ISP switched to making use of Level3s services, therefore a new patch against todays HEAD, tested (you're reading this, right?).
