Description sjhalpin 2010-03-05 05:51:34 UTC
Print output is not centered, though it appears as though it configured to be.

I select file|print, image settings tab and verify that "center" is set to "both". The preview in that dialog appears centered correctly, but when I click "print" to print the image, the printed image appears in the top left of the paper rather than centered.

The page setup shows the page orientation as matching the orientation of the image.

This happens every time I print, to either my HP PSC 1507 or if I print to pdf using PDFCreator driver. Other software prints ok and does not have this problem. I use US Letter size paper and this matches what is specified in the printer setup dialog.

Works for me. What does the Print Preview look like? Is the image centered there or not?

Yes, the image is centered there.

If it helps, I created a new image from the 640x480 template, filled it with black and printed it to pdf. I attach:
example.xcf.gz: the image
dialog.png: the print settings dialog - the preview image is centered
untitled.pdf: the image is at the top

The image is a page width, but a smaller image would print to the top and left. As I mentioned, I see this both with the pdf driver and printing to my HP printer (using the default driver for that printer).

It seems to happen on everything I print - the only way I found to print and center on the page is to make an image a full page size and center my material within that image. My expectation is that images smaller than the page size are centered according to the center option on the dialog.

BTW thanks for looking at this and thanks for the previous work on windows printing: this is the first version of GIMP I've used that prints well (apart from this) in Windows. I love GIMP :)

If the preview is correct, but the result on paper isn't, then the bug is somewhere in GTK+ or below.
Comment 8 André Klapper 2012-01-05 13:21:52 UTC
sjhalpin: Is this still a problem for you in a recent version? If so, which gtk version do you use nowadays?
Comment 9 sjhalpin 2012-01-09 05:48:25 UTC
Yes, the problem still exists, no change in the symptoms, just downloaded and confirmed with:
GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.6.11

using GEGL version 0.1.0 (compiled against version 0.1.0)
using GLib version 2.24.2 (compiled against version 2.24.2)
using GTK+ version 2.16.6 (compiled against version 2.16.6)
using Pango version 1.28.1 (compiled against version 1.28.1)
using Fontconfig version 2.8.0 (compiled against version 2.8.0)

I have this problem as of 09/24/17 on

Win 10 Version 1703 OS Build: 15063608 System Type: 64-bit OS, x-64
based processor

EPSON SC-P600 Series Driver version 6.74

GIMP 2.822

GIMP/File/Page Setup defaults to A4 every time that it is selected.

Setting GIMP/File/Page Setup to 8 1/2 x 11 corrected the horizontal
centering but not the vertical centering.
