Description Andy Spencer 2010-02-18 15:09:02 UTC
I have been working on a new virtual globe library called "libgis" for
about a year and would like to make it available for other developers to
use or contribute to. I asked what I should do in #gnome-love on
irc.gnome.org and andre suggested that I could host my code on
git.gnome.org.

I read the instructions at http://live.gnome.org/Git/NewRepository and they told me to send an email to svnmaster@gnome.org. I did so and my email bounced back saying I should open a ticket here.

Anyway, I think this is all the relevant information..

> The requested repository name (i.e. 'mynewproject').

libgis

> A brief description of what the software does.

libgis draws a picture of the earth using OpenGL. It allows you to move
about and view different parts of the earth. This is similar to Google
Earth and NASA World Wind. libgis also provides a simple plugin API and
a data access functions so applications using libgis can extend it's
capabilities. It is used by AWeather (see homepage(s)).

> Whether you consider your project meets the ProjectPrerequisites.
> - The project must be free/open source software

It is licenced under version 3 of the GNU General Public License.

> - It must use GTK+/GNOME technologies

It uses gtk as the toolkit, and glib as the main library. It also uses
libsoup and gtkglext.

> - It must be maintained, and already have had at least one public release

I have been working on libgis for roughly a year. Older releases (prior
to 0.3) were bundled with AWeather. The last release was in November,
but the git repository is still active. I would like to make a 0.4
release but would like to have the git repository moved before doing so.=20

> - To the best of your knowledge, it must not infringe on patents

There are several other free software projects that use similar
technologies. Notable NASA World Wind and KDE marble. The data used by
libgis is provided by the US Government and OpenStreetMap and is freely
available.

can this be closed?
Comment 5 Andy Spencer 2010-09-01 02:50:23 UTC
Sorry for not getting back to you on this. I requested a GNOME account so that I could write to the repository, but that request was denied because I haven't submitted patches for other GNOME projects.

Since I haven't been able to use this repository, I've just continued using the original. If I end up up submitting enough patches to other projects I'll try requesting an account again.

In the mean time, you might as well delete this repository since nobody is using it. I'd also suggest removing the "Users without a gnome.org git account" section from http://live.gnome.org/Git/NewRepository, since a repository without commit access won't do much good.
Comment 6 Olav Vitters 2010-09-01 10:30:19 UTC
Andy: Doesn't make sense that your account request was rejected. Do you still want to host it on git.gnome.org. If so, we can make defer from the standard account requirements.
Comment 7 Andy Spencer 2010-09-03 08:06:44 UTC
If it's possible, I would still like to host the repository at git.gnome.org. Last time I was told that I needed someone with a with a GNOME git account to vouch for me, but since I had not submitted patches for other projects, no one was able to do so.
Comment 8 Olav Vitters 2010-09-03 15:51:21 UTC
Having someone who knows you is easier to know we can trust you with git.gnome.org access.

Anyway, it seems like a nice project, so I'll vouch for you.

Please follow http://live.gnome.org/NewAccounts and request a voucher from 'bugzilla.gnome.org'. That will make the vouch request go to me. Don't select anything other than git or b.g.o as module.
Comment 9 Andy Spencer 2010-09-08 03:28:56 UTC
Olav: I tried requesting an account, but it appears my username and email are still in the database from the previous request. Can you clear those out for me? If you prefer, I can make another request using an alternate username and email address.
Comment 10 Olav Vitters 2010-09-09 07:56:50 UTC
I've setup your andys account. However, seems you managed to put a DSA key in there (shouldn't allow it). I've removed it. Please send a 2048 RSA key to accounts@gnome.org.
