GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 608291
Implement a tabbed interface
Last modified: 2011-04-14 07:49:53 UTC
I've got a few suggestions for Evolution, now that Bonobo is being removed and a lot of code refactored. In my opinion Evolution needs a tabbed interface. Users already know tabs and most likely use them a lot – at least everyone I introduced to Firefox' tabs in the past really liked that functionality. For a nice Desktop-experience Evolution's interface should look similar to the ones that are already implemented in Nautilus or Epiphany, users should not have to search for functionality that is normally provided in a toolbar or the menu. Short summary: -------------- Move bottom left icons (completely wrong place compared to other Gnome applications) to the toolbar or remove them completely and put their functionality into the menu. Show open tabs (=modules) below the toolbar. If an event like clicking an e-mail address or the panel-calendar triggers opening a module, don't open a new window with that module selected, but open a tab if it doesn't already exist and select it. Remember opened tabs and restore them at start, so that fetching e-mails and reading calendar information for example can be done in the background. Optional: Allow placing at least two tabs side by side and remove the to-do-list from the calender (it never belonged there anyway in my opinion). Please let me know what you think about my ideas. Greetings from Austria, Alex
Stuff like this is better discussed first on a mailing list (evolution-hackers). Has this happened before? Later on it's still possible to file seveal specific and to the point bug reports...

lunxale: See comment 1, that is the status / open question.
André I have seen your comment. Mine was only a ping to track any update here. But seems that this feature has been forgotten!
