Description Adi Roiban 2010-01-27 19:24:03 UTC
In the vertimus UI, the "File" field name is to vague and redundant.

The screenshot is what I see in Cromium. I can read:

File: Upload File No file chosen
    Upload a .po , .gz, .bz2 or .png file

--------------
The "Upload" part is really tiny and grayed out.

Instead if "File:" maybe we can have "Proposed translation" or "New translations" or something more visible and self explanatory.

--------
I know this is a minor problem. Feel free to consider this an invalid bug.

I'm just reporting this bug to share some feedback from some non technical translators.

They were not sure if the new changes / minor fixes should be pasted in the comment field or not. For them the "file" was the "translation" and were looking for a field to upload the translation.

Kindest regards,
Adi

Hi Adi,

If you use different browsers you will see that the rendering of the file upload button is different from browser to browser. Firefox for example displays a text entry and a button.

This buttons are controlled by the browser itself so there's nothing that can be done on our side on the control itself.

On the other hand, the grayed out text can be changed sure. Would you think that can be enough?

Gil,

it is not about the layout, but about the string.

Adi want is:

Instead if "File:" maybe we can have "Proposed translation" or "New
translations" or something more visible and self explanatory.

Unfortunately the rendering for file chooser across browsers is not consistent.

On Firefox looks more like a normal file chooser, but on Chromium it is very fuzzy (for my age :)

I checked Gmail UI and they are not using the file chooser, but rather a custom link hooked with JS.

For Vertimus UI maybe we can have something like this:

<tr>
<th colspan="2"><label for="id_file">Upload a .po, .gz, .bz2 or .png file: </label><input type="file" name="file" id="id_file"></th>
</tr>

It is ugly, but the 'Upload a .po, .gz, .bz2 or .png file' text is more visible.

Cheers,
Adi
