Description Jezza 2010-01-02 03:01:05 UTC
the OLSR drivers are in repos, and the OS linux routers are on the market, I believe its time to add mesh networking to the Gnome GUI for all to use (who has supported hardware, another issue...)

Ideally it could be a sixth tab on the Network Connections panel, perhaps labled "Mesh & Sharing" or perhaps "Connection Sharing"

the OLSR plugins package is already available, perhaps the gui could have the same switches & settings as the web gui, and use the node location & network health features - the node location / strength display could also be a great screensaver!

I see this as a feature that could really put linux on the map, and would start 'nux realizing some of the potential of Ubiqutous Computing, which is the way of the future.

There is plenty of groundswell for the mesh GUI in the ubuntu forums, bugs and brainstorm, I will try and link them to this bug.

I am doing my research project on mesh networking till June 2010, it will be done in Brisbane, and in conjuction with the Brismesh, the local wifi mesh club, I hope to get some nodes around town, but people have to beable to use them!

I will approach the CS faculties & local linux & computing clubs in the hope to get some work started here on NM and the applet. I study architecture so cant do the coding myself.

Thanks,

bugzilla.gnome.org is being shut down in favor of a GitLab instance.
We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time.

If you still use NetworkManager and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a recent and supported version of NetworkManager, then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/

Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (workforce and time is unfortunately limited).
