Description Matthew 2009-08-22 21:09:31 UTC
Steps to repeat:

1. Start Brasero
2. Select "Audio Project"
3. Drag an album of mp3's to Brasero (did not test with other formats).

What should happen:
The songs should be ordered by their id3 tags.

What really happens:
The songs are ordered by their file names.

This isn't a problem when songs have their track number in their file name (i.e., "2 - Some song.mp3"), but this is not always the case.

Thanks for the report.
I don't think that what you described should be done. Automatic (whether alphabetic or any other one) order should never be used for audio projects. If this was the case the order of tracks on a disc should always be the alphabetic order and not the order given/chosen by the user when he added the tracks. When you add a bunch of songs, you should see that brasero keeps the order in which they were dragged.

Maybe I did not understand what you meant?
Comment 2 Matthew 2009-09-05 15:28:10 UTC
I think you understood correctly. I don't quite understand the rationale behind this decision, though. When a user drags a folder containing an album to Brasero, he/she will want the songs burnt in the correct order. Not only that, but the user won't necessarily notice before burning that the songs are not in the correct order (especially if they don't already know what the right order is). You probably have a good reason, but I'm not sure what it is.
Comment 3 Philippe Rouquier 2009-09-05 18:46:10 UTC
OK I'll take an example:
Let's say you have AAA BBB CCC as tracks already added to your audio project. If we order them alphabetically automatically, the order of the tracks displayed and burnt will be AAA BBB CCC. Now unfortunately, these three are songs from a concert and they should go in this order CCC BBB AAA. In this case and given that brasero orders and enforce this order I cannot order them in CCC BBB AAA as brasero will reorder them as soon as I move one track.
I hope this is clearer.
Comment 4 Matthew 2009-09-05 20:52:57 UTC
Oh, I see. I think you did misunderstand me then--I am talking about ordering them by id3 tags/ogg comments (which include information about the correct song order), not ordering them alphabetically. Alphabetically is the way they are currently ordered (because your file manager probably orders them automatically).

In terms of being flexible, would it be possible to have Brasero order them when you first drag them to your project, but not enforce that order?
Comment 5 Giannis Rizos 2010-03-04 15:28:53 UTC
I'm a little bit confused of these already said. I have the following problem. I have created an mp3 playlist in rhythmbox. Of course the songs in this playlist are not alphabetically ordered. If I drag and drop these songs in a DATA project in brasero then the order changes and becomes alpabetic. That as you can understand is very bad because I want to listen to the songs in the correct order of the playlist. Now, if instead of creating a DATA project in brasero I create an AUDIO project then the drag and drop does not affect the order of the songs which is the desired behaviour. What I would really like (and I believe it is essential since most of the playlists nowadays is in mp3) is to be able to drag and drop songs in DATA projects in brasero and not change the order of the songs just like AUDIO projects. Thank you very much

Any news about that? I believe its very important bug-feature. Right now I cannot burn an mp3 playlist with the order of songs I put them in the playlist :(
