re System-Help and Support 2.5.3.6. Adding and Removing Bookmarks:

1.
To add the current location to the bookmarks list, press Add
would be better as:
To add the current open folder to the bookmarks list, press Add

2.
or right-click a folder in the file list and choose Add to Bookmarks.
just doesn't work - delete this.

3.
You can add any folder that is listed in the current location by dragging it to the bookmarks list.
You can't - delete this.

re Nautilus Help 6.6.18.2. To Edit a Bookmark:

4.
Choose Places ▸ Edit Bookmarks,
isn't there - delete this and the following 'or'. Leave 'in a browser window,'

5.
Is there any way of reducing the overlap and linking the two help systems?

Having reviewed each of these, I don't think points 1-3 are valid. The reporter has misunderstood that the text underlying points 1-3 deals with the "Open File" window, not with the Nautilus window. Perhaps that could be made a bit clearer.

The text underlying point 4 is confusing, because "Places -> Edit Bookmarks" only appears using Nautilus spatial mode, and I think that should be made clear.

patch to clarify point 4

Here's a proposed patch.

I don't like this change. The current text directly addresses the user experience we provide, while providing additional instructions for those who choose to use the file browser instead. I don't ever want to present the phrase "spatial mode" to users. If distros are changing the user experience, then it's their responsibility to make the corresponding documentation changes.

Some comments:

1 - I agree

2 - Confirmed

3 - Incorrect. In browser mode, you can drag a folder to the Bookmarks if the Places browser is showing.

4 - In Places in the nautilus window, this is an option. Not Places in the gnome-panel

5 - Not sure what you mean by the two help systems

I don't really follow your comments. The patch uses the phrase "spatial mode" and "browser mode" because those are the titles of the corresponding sections in the User Guide, and therefore the decision of the authors of the guide is very clearly been taken to present the two different modes of operation to users in that way:

http://library.gnome.org/users/user-guide/stable/nautilus-spatial-mode.html.en
http://library.gnome.org/users/user-guide/stable/nautilus-browser-mode.html.en

The current text in the section under discussion doesn't use those phrases, so is confusing or inconsistent with the way that the modes of operation are presented in the guide.

This isn't a distribution issue, because Nautilus is configurable by the user to use either method of operation. Hence the guide addresses both - all the patch does is to clarify this particular instruction for use with both modes.

But it isn't a big deal - the original reporter of this bug was confused by it, but no one else has reported the issue (probably very few people have got as far as reading this documentation in the first place).
