Description Andrei 2009-02-02 18:56:28 UTC
Hi, guys!
One more request for you. It would be nice to have a message filter for some accounts.

Example. I use several accounts: gtalk, ICQ, hotmail. For ICQ I do not want to receive messages from anybody not in my list (there is a lot of spam going through this IM). On the other hand, I would like to receive all messages through gtalk.

Maybe a "Ignore messages from unknown contacts" option would makse sense but I think making it per account would be complicate the UI too much.

What the others think?

I agree with this. At the moment its really annoying with all the spam going through.

On the other hand it would still be good to have for each account. I know that pidgin is using a per account ignore or so and that worked really good.

Also a plugin to give certain rules before being able to sen messages to the user might be good. Like a spam bot or something.

To be able for anyone to send a message they need to answer the question or something like that.

This seems related to this bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=610373

A per-account basis would be fantastic. I don't think it would clutter up the interface too much if done carefully.

When you go to your accounts menu (Edit > Accounts), every account has an "Advanced" section. This could fit perfectly there, and be very non-disruptive.

Pidgin, for instance, has several options:
* Allow all users to contact me. (default)
* Allow only the users on my buddy list to contact me.
* Allow only the users below.. (unnecessary?)
* Block only the users below.. (unnecessary?)
* Block all users. (unnecessary?)

An addition of the first two would be very useful. This is great for privacy as well as fending off spam and unwanted users. It might be nice to have some sort of separate dialog for privacy, and make it more readily apparent to users. However, the advanced sections in accounts would be sufficient. Or, perhaps on top of that, something in preferences that allows you to set the default privacy state for your accounts (Allow all users/only users on contact list).
