GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 568672
Screensaver "Blank Screen" should use DPMS
Last modified: 2020-11-06 20:14:49 UTC
Please describe the problem: When "Blank Screen" is selected as the screensaver, the screen should actually turn off using DPMS when the screen saver activates, at least for LCD monitors. This would help laptops, since merely displaying a blank screen doesn't actually save power on an LCD. This has been reported before on the ubuntu launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/257358), however since this is clearly not specific to ubuntu I thought it should be reported upstream. Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:

That is up to the power manager.
Any news? It's been more than a year, and the bug is still marked as "UNCONFIRMED", although I can confirm the bug is very real :) I understand this may not be top priority, but shouldn't it at least be assigned to someone?
This works for me in GNOME 3.2
