GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 567924
Lyrics Plugin should allow the user to perform a google search for the song's lyrics
Last modified: 2018-05-24 13:57:48 UTC
If the song you are listening isn't very popular, it's very likely that the default lyrics sites (lyrc.com.ar, leoslyrics....) won't provide you anything good. Then I suggest that, next to "search again" and "edit" buttons in lyrics pane, should be placed a "search in google" button, which opens a firefox (or other browser) instance with the appropriate google search query. (e.g. to search for Queens' Bohemian Rhapsody something like this http://www.google.com/search?q="bohemian+rhapsody"+"queen" ). It should be fairy simple to people who knows the lyrics plugin code... Thank You, Enzo Other information:
This really doesn't sound like a good idea. Even when a google search actually gives you results that relate to the song you're searching for, they tend to be on awful ad-infested sites that try to sell you ringtones and other crap. It would be better to add more non-obnoxious lyrics search sites.
Well, it's true that often lyrics site contains ad and other junk. But if the plugin can't find any lyrics in default sites, why should i manually copy-paste the artist and title of my song in firefox, when I could press a "search in google" button? At least in my case, google always (with rare exception of really exotic songs) gives the right lyrics in the first or second result. All you have to do is to navigate through the web page and copy the lyrics into RB.
Created attachment 126566 [details] [review] Few lines of code that add the search in google option In the lyrics pane (the one you get after hitting right mouse button > song properties > lyrics) i've added a "search in google" button, who asks gconf for the right web-browser to use and construct a google search query for the current song and artist's lyrics, opening the browser. I've tested it long, and it works great (at least with firefox and epiphany).
