GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 522364
"Other Media" section of Media tab is badly designed
Last modified: 2012-07-20 16:02:53 UTC
The "Other Media" section of the Media tab, where users select what should happen when less common media formats are inserted, uses a ComboBox to select the media type and then another, dependent ComboBox to select the action. This is clunky, because normally ComboBoxes are used to select a permanent setting that will be saved, rather than to choose something to be configured. A more appropriate choice would be to use a scrollable TreeView (list) with columns for everything, or have a button to open a separate window with a scrollable TreeView that can be used to select handlers for the less common media. Another design issue here is that "Blank Blu-Ray Disc," a rather exotic format, appears above "Blank CD Disc" and "Blank DVD Disc," two much more common formats. Other information:
-> GIO. I see what you mean, I don't quite like that design too. CC-ing David that is the one who wrote that code for 2.22.
As it's still unconfirmed, I'd like to add that I was slightly confused and had to think twice, before I understood what the two comboboxes were meant for. Maybe "Other Media" should be an expander with a scrollable list view inside as suggested, containing a string-column "type" and combobox-column "action".
This was moved to the control center a while ago.
