Description Dylan McCall 2008-03-13 03:35:16 UTC
Documentation
Section:
Screenshots of main window are outdated in many cases (Network administration, for example), shows window without an Unlock button. The written documentation does not mention PolicyKit or the behaviours associated with it.

Correct version:
The documentation should have up to date screenshots showing this new button. It should also explain how the configuration must be Unlocked to make changes, possibly with a link to more information on PolicyKit.

Other information:
Pushed upstream from Ubuntu bug 201131 <bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-user-docs/+bug/201131>

"The Network Administration and Users Administration tools both have had significant changes in user interface due to the use of PolicyKit. However, their documentation does not mention the need to Unlock the capplet to make changes. In addition, the screenshots for these capplets are out of date and do not include the Unlock button."

The Ubuntu bug was actually filed for the correct product, though. Besides, the mention of PolicyKit is either invalid (because gnome-control-center doesn't use it at all) or relates to something else (like Gnome System Tools, maybe).

Please don't randomly upstream distribution bugs if you're not famililar with the respective packages.

PolicyKit is currently not officially in the GNOME desktop. It will probably be in the future, but at the time being this is a Ubuntu specific addition.

Judging from http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.22/#sect:policykit-integration PolicyKit IS a part of GNOME now, right? Which should render this bug valid?
