Description slackline 2008-03-12 09:44:51 UTC
Is it possible to integrate control of mpd into Rhythmbox?

I listen to my music on my home computer at work. At home I've mpd running and streaming the music to an icecast server which I can connect to with Rhythmbox. However, in order to control mpd (add/remove files etc.) I have to use a separate app (at the moment I use gmpc http://sarine.nl/gmpc).

It would be a useful feature to be able to control this from Rhythmbox.

I found this in the archives (http://mail.gnome.org/archives/rhythmbox-devel/2005-September/msg00150.html) and to answer the question, the server is indeed playing the music and the client is a UI for controlling it.

It's probably possible, but I don't think it would fit all that well.
Comment 2 slackline 2008-03-12 13:12:01 UTC
What about as a plugin then if it doesn't fit with the remit of Rhythmbox itself?
Comment 3 slackline 2008-03-12 13:39:11 UTC
I've pretty much zero skills in programming beyond basic perl scripting and R (a stats language), but there is a python MPD client that may be "easy" to port to a plugin?
Comment 4 Jonathan Matthew 2008-03-12 14:09:40 UTC
It's not a question of whether it belongs in a plugin or not (that's very rarely a question; pretty much any new feature belongs in a plugin). I don't think this feature would fit into the rhythmbox user interface very well.

fairy-muff, t'was just a thought.
