Description Sebastien Bacher 2008-03-06 21:54:35 UTC
The bug has been opened on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197954

"I found this bug in an updated (2008-03-03) Ubuntu Hardy amd64.
When I try to access the floppy drive from the "places" menu, I get the following error:

Unable to scan Floppy Drive for media changes
Cannot invoke CheckForMedia on HAL: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method "CheckForMedia" with signature "" on interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage.Removable" doesn't exist

Nautilus does not appear, as expected. From Places/Computer, clicking on Floppy drive does nothing."
Comment 1 David Zeuthen (not reading bugmail) 2008-03-06 22:03:06 UTC
Yeah, this was only added to hal very recently (my bad; had it sitting in my local tree for months).

http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=hal.git;a=commitdiff;h=28048726d5401e913b8a2321838147a402bd34a6;hp=1f567f93c6ad23371cd75ed5507e24b7d707ca1d

(dunno if it applies to 0.5.10. I think so, but most probably need to
cut out some of the junk that are not essential)

Anyway, it's post-0.5.10 so we need to do a fallback in gvfs if this is not available in the hald that is running since I think 0.5.10 (or 0.5.9) is all we can depend on. Will look into this.

Comment 3 Sebastien Bacher 2008-03-19 10:57:14 UTC
that's still broken and using a git hal version implementing the method makes no difference

behaviour described using the current versions

"computer place still says 'no media' and places menu has that weird hal signature error
when I use gnome-mount -d /dev/fd0, then the Places menu gets a secodn icon "disk" with a floppy icon (in addition to "Floppy drive")
 same in the computer place
the disk icon opens nautilus with the floppy contents
floppy drive icon continues to be broken"

Has this changed now that we've moved away from hal?
Comment 5 Ondrej Holy 2014-11-05 10:03:51 UTC
This is an old bug without answer and we have udisks2 now. If you still see it with current gvfs versions, please reopen with reproduction details.
