Description Robin Stone 2007-12-13 16:19:23 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #496958 +++

Please describe the problem:
My Wacom Bamboo does not function with GTK apps in Windows (tried GIMP and Inkscape). The pen and mouse work fine when navigating through windows and using other applications (like Paint.NET) but whenever a GTK app is started, then input freezes or responds VERY slowly (once every several seconds). Here's my setup:

Windows XP SP2 32-bit (P4 2.6 Ghz, 1GB RAM/ Windows Vista Home Basic 1.2 Ghz Celeron M 1.5 GB of RAM
GTK+ Runtime 2.10.13
GIMP 2.4
Inkscape 0.45.1
Wacom Pen Tablet Driver 5.05-7

Steps to reproduce:
1. Get a Bamboo
2. Try it out on a GTK app in Win32

Actual results:
The pen freezes or respond VERY slowly (once every several seconds). They are completely unusable once the application launches.

Expected results:
The input should remain responsive and allow me to edit images.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
I don't know if this is limited to Win32. I was unable to get the tablet working at all on my Ubuntu install, which is the reason I'm using XP in the first place. This could, as far as I know, affect other platforms as well.

Since you already realized that this is a GTK+ issue, why didn't you file it against GTK+ in the first place?

Since your GTK+ runtime environment is outdated, I can not reassign this bug report for you. Please update to 2.12 and if the problem still shows up, reassign this report. Otherwise please close it.

Have completed upadting to GTk+ 2.12.1 with NO change in performance.

To answer your question concerning why I filed it under Gimp and not GTK is a valid concern and the answer is quite easy I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION to the original bug entry I cloned.

If there are any other steps you would like me to take I would be glad to assist in tracking this problem down. Pen Tablets are new to me and I am just now delving into their potential.

Why did you clone another bug that already existed? If you have additional information, just post comments to the existing bug report.
